WE HAVE A BABY ON THE WAY!!!
Yes, it's true!! Chad & I are expecting a little one of our own to be brought into this world!!!
Since you're probably shocked at this point, I'll give you a little bit of a back-story to let you know how we found out about our expected blessing.
On the way home from Arkansas, as we were about to pull into our city, we started talking about my 'late' period (TMI?). Not thinking all that much about it (cuz it's happened before), we joked about being pregnant and how cool it would be if we really were. Well, my job while Chad was doing a couple of things at work was to unpack and repack our bags to go to the beach. While he was gone, I found a pregnancy test in our bags (we've obviously been trying for several months). I went ahead and took it, completely expecting it to read 'not pregnant'. BUT, that wasn't the case. Thanks to ClearBlue and their fabulous digital readings, it took a very short 10 seconds or so to CLEARLY read 'Pregnant'. As you can see...
My reaction was a "No way....no way! That thing says 'Pregnant'. Oh my God. It says 'Pregnant'. Does that really say what I think it says? .... Woo-hooooooo! I can't believe it!" Now, I had to figure out how I was going to share the news with hubby when he got home...waiting for him was the longest 2 hours EVER! I wasn't one who wanted to tell him such awesome news on the phone, so I waited 'til he walked in the door. When he first walked in (keep in mind my excitement), he was on the phone with his brother and they weren't talking about anything even remotely as cool as what I wanted to talk about. Finally, they hung up and I got to talk. My exact words were (as I had the P-test right behind me that still read the news nice and clear)...
Kelly: "I couldn't wait any longer..."
Chad: "You couldn't wait any longer for what?!"
Kelly: "To take the test we were talking about..."
Chad: "Which test?"
Kelly: "Ya know...this one"
As I reached back to grab the stick, I showed it to him and he read it plain as day. (For this part, I wished I had the camera set up.) He read it and BOING he flew up into the air. He jumped, yelled 'no way!', smiled and grabbed me up in a big hug. We then had our 'holy crap, we're pregnant' reaction altogether. Excitement and shock took over and we packed up the car and headed out. Needless to say, our whole conversational ride to the beach was a baby-filled one. It was definitely a great day! That day was Wednesday, March 25th! Can you believe I've kept the secret this long! Whew, it's been HARD!
Since then, I've spoken to every woman from my family and friends; a collective 20 conversations or so. Not once did I foul up and prematurely announce the news, though I came extremely close a couple of times. I really hate keeping good news a secret, but we had our reasons.
First of all, we had always wanted to be able to tell our families in a special way. So, we thought the best way to do that would be to wait until we could have them be altogether. That was this weekend at the beach for the Sellers family and during Easter Saturday (ha) for the Robertson family.
We got the Sellers family together for a Sunday Easter breakfast at Cracker Barrel (one of our faves). I had a little surprise for each of them that came along with us. They were these cute, little Easter mini tins used for holding candy or whatever you wanted. I filled them with Easter grass and a message in each one that read things like, "Congratulations, you're going to be a grandpa (ma)!" & "'Aunt Cathy'=>has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?!" & "'Uncle Chris'=> go ahead and try that on for size!". We distributed them at the table as we waited for our food and let them all open them at the same time. It was perfect and man, were they shocked!! :) I think Chris & Cathy thought we were joking with them at first, but Carol read hers first and didn't take long to get teary-eyed. Hugs were given all the way around and everyone was soooooo shocked and excited. Their faces were PRICELESS! Mission accomplished :)!
For my side, the Robertsons, we sent a special Easter package to my parent's house. It was full of about 40 pre-filled eggs that had both candy and about 15 little messages that announced our secret pregnancy in different funny ways hidden inside the eggs. We found out they were having to do Easter on Saturday because of work-conflicts with a couple of people, so a day earlier than we thought...woo-hoo! haha. That's one day less that I have to keep the secret! I seriously couldn't stand having this secret much longer!
Their instructions were to open the box on Easter Saturday while the family was all together and then to have their Easter egg hunt using our donated eggs. With the usual Easter egg hunt rules of course: whoever finds them, gets the candy and the clues...and gets to freak out the fastest! haha. We expected a quick and frantic phone call soon after they started playing along...and we definitely got it! :)
It was one of the loudest phone calls ever, with all of the women screaming and carrying on, just like I had hoped they would. Tears were shed, friends and family were called, and baby shower plans were already being made...lol. It was awesome. Here is their basket of fun...
We have also made some really cute picture cards to send out to our peeps to announce being pregnant. They included this picture of us being our usual cheesy selves...and gleaming too.
With this post, of course I'm going to ask all of you fabulous Christian sisters out there to lift us up in your prayers from now until Decemberish. We really hope to have a healthy and happy pregnancy...we're starting week 9 tomorrow so, Woo-hoo! Thank you for the shout-outs and I hope everyone had as blessed an Easter as we did! :)
